為深入貫徹落實《教育部關于進一步推進高中階段學校考試招生制度改革的指導意見》有關精神，落實英語學科核心素養的理念，保證小學、初中、高中英語教學的連貫性，在認真研討、廣泛征求意見和參照全國其他地區做法的基礎上，河南省基礎教研室決定對2020年及以后河南普通高中招生英語考試題型做出調整。

　　在保持大部分題型穩定的基礎上，此次對原試卷的四個題型進行調整。取消原試卷的“單項選擇題（共計15分）”，將原試卷的“完形填空”一題由原來的10個小題（共計10分）調整為15個小題（共計15分），將原試卷的“詞語運用”（一個小節，10個小題，共計10分）改成“語篇填空”（兩個小節，第一小節保持原來的10個小題，共計10分，但將備選詞由12個減少為10個，增設的第二小節根據語篇要求填空，每空一詞，共5小題，共計5分），將原試卷的“書面表達”（15分，80詞左右）調整為“書面表達”（20分，100詞左右），原試卷的“聽力理解”“閱讀理解”和“補全對話”三個題型（共計70分），保持不變。

　　此次調整的主要目的是遵循語言教學的普遍規律，突出語篇，強調運用，引導教師關注語言功能和語言運用，以期有效地解決當前英語教學中普遍存在的因“碎片化”“淺層化”而導致的“耗時低效”的問題。從未來英語測試的命題趨勢來看，單項選擇將會逐漸被新的題型所取代。這種試卷結構的改變進一步降低了客觀選擇題的比例，加大了主觀題的考查力度，順應了時代對英語語言綜合運用能力考查的要求。
